Product Description

Product Description

What is an Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDD)?

An arc-fault detection device (AFDD) or arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) is a circuit breaker that breaks the circuit when it detects the electric arcs that are a signature of loose connections in home wiring. Loose connections, which can develop over time, can sometimes become hot enough to ignite house fires. An AFDD selectively distinguishes between a harmless arc (incidental to normal operation of switches, plugs, and brushed motors), and a potentially dangerous arc (that can occur, for example, in a lamp cord which has a broken conductor).

AFDD can be installed in consumer units to provide protection from arc faults. They use microprocessor technology to analyse the waveform of the electricity being used to detect any unusual signatures which would signify an arc on the circuit. This will cut off power to the affected circuit and could prevent a fire. They are far more sensitive to arcs than conventional circuit protective devices.

Like a Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) or Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection (RCBO), AFDD usually incorporates a test button which can be operated by the end-user to prove the mechanical operation of the device.

EKL9-40AFD Key Features

EKL9-40AFD is 1P+N (Pole N could be ON/Off) arc fault detection devices with integrated RCBO in 6kA breaking capacity, with rated current up to 40A and sensitivity 300mA. LED arc fault indication (During standard operating mode (toggle in ON position), the LED is green. When the toggle is on OFF position or when a fault occurs, the LED is OFF), gray test push button to verify the correct functioning of residual current device. In only 36mm width, they provide protection against arc faults, overload short-circuit and earth fault currents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main function of an Arc Fault Detection Device (AFDD)?
An AFDD is a dedicated circuit breaker designed to detect dangerous electric arcs caused by loose or damaged connections in electrical wiring. It identifies these signatures and breaks the circuit to prevent electrical fires.
What specifications does the EKL9-40AFD device feature?
The EKL9-40AFD is a 1P+N device with an integrated RCBO, 6kA breaking capacity, a rated voltage of 240V, and a rated current range of 6-40A. It features a 300mA sensitivity, an LED indicator for operation status, and a test button, all within a compact 36mm width.
How does the LED fault indication on this device work?
During standard operating mode with the toggle in the ON position, the LED remains green. When the toggle is switched to the OFF position or if a wiring fault occurs, the LED turns off.
How are the quality standards of these devices guaranteed?
Quality is maintained through a process of pre-production sample evaluation followed by a rigorous final inspection before shipment. All products are manufactured in strict accordance with international standards, such as IEC61009-1 and IEC62606.
What is the mechanical and electrical lifespan of this AFDD?
The EKL9-40AFD model is engineered for long-term durability, featuring an electrical lifespan of up to 4,000 operations and a mechanical lifespan of up to 10,000 operations.
What types of protective actions does the unit perform?
This unit integrates AFDD and RCBO functionalities, providing triple protection against dangerous arc faults, overload short-circuits, and earth fault currents.
