Working Principle

An air circuit breaker (ACB) operates by automatically cutting off current when it detects an overload or short circuit. During normal operation, its main contacts remain closed, allowing current to flow freely.

When a sustained overcurrent occurs, the thermal element bends due to heat, triggering the circuit breaker mechanism. In the event of a sudden short circuit, the solenoid coil generates a momentary magnetic force that trips the circuit breaker mechanism. This action rapidly separates the main contacts.

A strong electric arc is generated between the separated contacts and is immediately sent to the arc-extinguishing chamber, where the arc is broken up, cooled, and extinguished, thus safely disconnecting the circuit and preventing system damage.

  • 1. Power-on test: Manually open and close the circuit 3-5 times to check if the operating mechanism is flexible, without jamming or abnormal noise. Perform wiring tests to verify remote opening and closing functions.
  • 2. Test protection functions: Overload protection (long-time delay L), short-circuit protection (instantaneous/short-time delay I), and earth fault protection (G).
  • 3. Visual inspection:
    • Check the controller housing for any damage.
    • Ensure all wiring connections are secure and not loose.
    • Verify the display screen (if available) is functioning normally.
    • Measure the control power supply voltage to confirm it meets specifications (typically 24V DC or 110/220V AC).
    • Check the status of the power indicator light.
  • 4. Mechanical operation test:
